R.Y.A. Practical & Theory Sailing Courses
Our 6 day courses are custom
designed for all sailors from the complete beginner through to Yachtmaster.
There is a mix of abilities onboard each week, which we have found
to be most successful. It not only allows friends of different levels
to sail together, those doing Skipper courses have more time to
skipper the yacht while the Competent Crew learn how to sail effectively.
On arrival your skipper assesses your individual
sailing ability and aspirations in the sheltered bay of Gibraltar.
This is the perfect outdoor classroom for us to teach the various
aspects of sailing.
Those on the Competent Crew course will
learn the basics of hands-on sailing and steering the boat. They
also have the opportunity to prepare for the Day Skipper course
with an introduction to navigation and chart work under the close
supervision of an Instructor. |

Gibraltar Bay. |
Meanwhile the Day
Skippers, having done their theory,
are taught to prepare a passage plan and then put their navigation
skills into action. Do not be fooled by the name, Day Skippers also
learn to sail at night and soon understand the importance of knowing
how to read the various lights. The nightsail is often crossing
the Strait to Africa as this is a particularly interesting voyage
with plenty of lighthouses and busy shipping lanes to observe.
In the evenings we moor at one of the many cosmopolitan
marinas on the Mediterranean coast such as Sotogrande, La Duquesa,
Estepona and Marbella or on the more natural Atlantic "Costa
de la Luz" at Tarifa, Trafalgar, Sanci Petri, Santa Maria,
Chipiona, Cadiz and Seville. |

Nightsail starts at sunset. |
During the 6 days students are taught boat handling under power
and sail, mooring in various marinas, pilotage, navigation, passage
planning, knots, man overboard drills, yacht maintenance, the ‘rules
of the road’ and meteorology according to course level.
Coastal Skippers should
already have done a fair amount of sea miles and some skippering
experience, good navigation knowledge
and know how to sail well. We improve all the skippering skills
to sail efficiently and confidently in all conditions. |

Skipper Training |
Yachtmaster prep courses
are designed to prepare the already seasoned sailors for their
exam and the responsibilities that come with this qualification.
We have a 100% pass rate thanks to our dedicated Instructors.
All students are appraised throughout the week, with focus on building
confidence and skills. At the end of the week the crew are debriefed
by the Instructor. Then it’s time to celebrate a ‘job
well done’ in one of our ‘run-a-shore’ destinations. |

Yachtmaster training |
| On the last day you cruise back to Gibraltar after completing your
R.Y.A training course syllabus that encourages a high standard of
seamanship and navigation, gaining a well-earned certificate that
is recognised worldwide. |

Quote from students:
" Please convey our thanks to all who made last weeks course
educational & fun. Special thanks to Jim who deserves a medal, his
enthusiasm carried us all the way. Great teacher. Thanks again".

International Certificate of Competence
(otherwise known as the I.C.C.)
Unlike the other RYA certificates, the I.C.C. is only
available to British citizens. To put in simple terms, it is rather like
a driving licence. More than a Competent crew qualification but not upto
Day Skipper standard. Most popular for those who already have experience
in sailing but have never had any normal training or examination. We can
teach up the the required standard to pass the sail or motor course. You
can join a group or have private tuition. These certificates are particulary
popular for the boat owner wishing to cruise in the Med as the authorities
are now asking for the skippers qualifications when you come into port.
